It was around this time in 2003 that I committed to my first 10K. I was about three months into my 115-lb weight loss journey and I registered for the July 4th Peachtree Road Race (if you don’t register early, you don’t get in!)
Now if you were to ask me in January of that year, “Hey Mikey, you need to lose over 100 pounds and register for this 10K coming up even though you’ve never done a race your entire life. Cool?”
I would have laughed and said no way. I mean c’mon. That’s overwhelming. In fact, just knowing you need to lose 20lbs can be daunting.
I remember telling my private clients to simply focus on losing the first 5 pounds. You see 5 pounds doesn’t sound so tough, right?
What people don’t realize is that losing 5 pounds
is just as doable as losing 20 pounds.
You simply repeat the process. If you need to lose 20 pounds, you’ll lose 5 pounds 4 times.
Crazy, but powerful perception, right?
